Now you can! Often called "DIY music boxes," there are many hand-crank models in existence that play tunes from strips of special punch card paper. Each music box model has a range of available notes on its comb, and each hole punched in a strip moves a mechanism that plucks a corresponding note. Whether you use the official paper or print your own, you'll be programming your own songs in no time. These instruments come in sets that include the music box itself, a few strips of blank paper, and a hole puncher. You'll have everything you need to get started. The process makes a lot more sense if you see it in action. You can watch a demonstration of the 30 note model on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hz_gbnwxpVU REQUIREMENTS --------------- This arrangement of "Labyrinth Zone" requires: 20 Note Music Box 3 pages of cardstock printer paper Hole Punch Scissors Scotch tape FILES --------------- MBC If you've downloaded the "Music Box Composer" program by Jelly Biscuits, you can open this .mbc file and edit the musical arrangement however you like. PDF The .pdf file is an exact replica of the music box strips needed to play this arrangement. All the notes are already marked. Just print, cut, punch, and play! ZIP A .zip collection of all listed files. TXT The .txt readme. HOW TO PLAY --------------- Print the PDF at 100% (Actual Size) without margins. Cut out the strips. Punch holes where indicated. Tape the strips together in order. NOTE: Pay close attention to the measure numbers along the bottom of each strip. There are some overlaps (duplicated sections) at the end of each page to make sure you don't miss any notes. Those overlaps will need to be trimmed off. Crank through music box. Enjoy! NOTE: If you make mistakes, you can cover an incorrect hole with a small piece of tape on the paper's underside. This will prevent the mechanism from striking a note.
