I don’t know why this news fills me with dread when presumably I myself have survived death multiple times, but it does.  Existence has taken on ominous, almost antagonizing turn.  Even though Eij himself might be the reason for this in recent days, what’s done is done -- and losing my defense expert in such a situation is a terrifying thought.  I suppose it’s hard to say if war wouldn’t have found me anyway.  Sofarhei certainly believed it would.

In a race against time to pick up more blueprints for Eij, I stumbled into another time-sensitive mission:  an SOS.  An alien contacted me from subspace, accusing me of abandoning them, speaking of a desolate, sunless world with no escape.  Eij is strong, so I turned my efforts toward rescue.
