Name: Otney Base
Planet: Uxton F1
System: Ibetsus
Galaxy: Euclid
Founded by: The Beacon-Entity

Otney Base is a large dwelling on the southrise side of Uxton F1. Built inside one of Uxton's mountains by the Beacon-Entity, it includes a docking area and eatery, a grand communal living space with kitchen, an indoor greenhouse, a guest wing, an office loft, a specialized hydroponics nursery with attached farmer's quarters, a modest owner's suite, efficient basement storage, and an interior emergency shelter. All areas except the basement have windowed exposures to Uxton's bright skies, and several include fully open archways for catching the planet's dry desert breezes.

// BEACON-NOTE: // This page reflects the state of Otney Base during the Second Shift. It has changed following the Third Shift. (See: #Era Changes.)

History

I, the Beacon-Entity, began building Otney Base after the Second Shift drastically altered the appearances of the galaxy's planets. Saddened by the changes to my first adopted home, Wucastbo VIII, I became interested in returning to each individual planet I had previously visited to thoroughly study the nature of the changes. This was to be a science experiment to pull me out of my gloom... a way to turn disappointment into adventure.

Along the way, the new aesthetic of Uxton F1 captured my attention. Its yellow atmosphere and contrasting blue waters were lovely and unusual, and I was fascinated that its pools and oceans remained comparatively warm during the frosty nights. I chose an initial base site on top of a hill overlooking a body of water, but while surveying the area from that spot, I noticed perfectly conical mountains in the distance. When I walked to them, I knew: I would build my base inside this mountain. It would be a challenge.

My sadness evaporated, and Otney Base grew.

Construction

The following Travellers were involved in Otney Base's construction:

  • The Beacon-Entity

The construction of Otney base consumed my energy almost entirely for several consecutive days. I could not stop thinking about the project, and when I wasn't laying foundations or decorating, I was sketching floor plans and carefully measuring dimensions.

I began without any end result in mind. As I built, the scope and purpose of Otney expanded. The office loft was the first room constructed, and the rest fell into place organically.

My first important purpose was to fabricate a relaxing space that captured ample light, and my second was to anticipate the needs of any visitors.

Aoss' Addition

After Aoss was re-recruited, a floor between the office loft and owner's suite was built to house his specialized nursery and personal quarters. The upstairs area within was originally intended as a storage room, but Aoss insisted it be converted into his living area in order to free up space for a second balcony of planters below.

Important Events

Otney Base has kept a low profile and has not experience any events of particular note.

Era Changes

Following the Third Shift, Uxton F1's natural landscape was devastated. Its beautiful yellow skies were dimmed to a sickly teal, and its iconic mountains were wiped from existence. Otney Base survived only as as an exposed skeleton of floating ruins.
