I am Bea'key, a Gek born with a Vy'keen soul! I was told the tales of Travellers from the moment I hatched, and those stories made me yearn for a life among the stars. This yearning is the reason I found my greatest friend Bo'gus, and together we shattered the cages of who we were told to be and instead followed our hearts to become what we are!
Biography
This is my tale, and I will tell it myself!
I was the smallest cheeper in my clutch, and not good at being a Gek. I dreamt of starships, space, and heroic battles. These are forbidden things if they are not done in reverence to units. I quickly learned to mask my strangeness to avoid discipline and disgrace. No one knew of my invisible wishes, but I was considered odd all the same.
I carved a small niche for myself delivering delicate goods on foot across long distances. These tasks took me far beyond the elders' watchful eyes and also satisfied my thirst for adventure. My planet's frequent heat storms meant that no one questioned why I was gone so long, why I came home so scuffed and dirty. It was the perfect cover! I spent much of those adventures lost in thought, tinkering with scrap, and reading. Reading anything I could.
The first person I told any of these secrets to was Bo'gus. Bo'gus was a neighboring Vy'keen set apart by his fellows, the sort who was kept at a distance unless he was being mocked. Somehow we discovered we were having the same recurring dream. That was when I knew we were soulmates, destined for something grand together.
We found a cave far away from our family encampments and began stockpiling our treasures. Bo'gus sneaked in crops and other plants to tend to. I dragged in salvaged technology and studied starship schematics. All of this, even our friendship, was kept from the tyranny of the High Command and the Trade Federation! We promised each other that one day we would escape our planet forever and live a life as pirates, free and answering to no one.
And then, one day, we had our chance. A crashed ship I'd been repairing for a year was ready to fly, and Bo'gus had grown enough provisions to keep us fed for a long journey. We were already beyond our planet's atmosphere and celebrating our escape when an inexplicable phenomenon phased our ship into two identical copies -- Bo'gus in one and me in the other -- and threw us into separate sectors of the galaxy.
At least, that is what I believe.
Now I finally have my life of adventure, but I do not know what has become of my partner and friend. When I get frightened I remind myself that he can survive alone just as well as I can, and that I know in my gut that he's alive. We will find each other again. And when we do, we will tell such glorious tales that Hirk himself will smile at our great deeds!
