What are Snowshoe Scotties? |
|
Snowshoe Scotties are an NIB selective breed by KeyGlyph. They're the very first Wood Panel Rescue original!
They have:
-- Chihuahua markings in all slots (any %)
-- Scottie genes in all body shape slots
-- Chihuahua boots (any #), or
-- Siblings with chihuahua boots (any #)
|
Their GenePoolz tables will look something like this: |

There are two phenotype variations in the breed:
Classic Snowshoes express chihuahua boots (any amount).
Barefoot Snowshoes don't, but have siblings who do.
|
|
So what's a "Fauxshoe?" |
A Fauxshoe isn't an official subtype of the breed, but just a cute way of
distinguishing dogz who are almost Snowshoes, but not quite.
These dogz express chihuahua boots but still have remnants of scottie genes in one or more of their marking slots.

Family Lines & Pedigree |
|
|
The Snowshoe Scottie pedigree consists of six color families,
each containing two separate branches of 3+ generations.
The fourth+ generation of each color family unifies its dual branches into one (e.g. FG)
and is the first gen in which full NIB Showshoes are possible.
It's the fifth+ generation, though, when Snowshoe pups really start taking over!
Families were color-coded to avoid inbreeding. The A1 and B1 branches share common ancestors, so both families were marked red for simplicity's sake.
Initially only the "primary" lines of red, yellow,
and blue existed. White and black were added later on.

The Original Color Line Couples |
These twelve dogz formed the original couples who unified their color families.
They and their puppies carry a great deal of significance and sentimentality in the Snowshoe pedigree! |

The Backstory
Snowshoe Scotties were my first attempt at a selective breed. Inspired by
RogueRowan's projects, these
pups were born from the need to lose myself in an endless task while I grieved the passing of our beloved cat.
I created my method for producing an NIB family line from scratch, mostly because it didn't occur to me that guides
for this must certainly exist within the Petz community already (spoiler: they do).
You can read more about my process on RogueRowan's forum
The Petz Backyard,
as well as RKC.
I honestly wasn't sure if I'd succeed, but six months later I found myself amidst a herd of
adorable little scotties scooting their butts all over the place in every color of the fur rainbow. It was very satisfying.
